Washington DC

Our home and our nation's capital. The seat of the federal government, names after George Washington and designed by Pierre L'enfant. Few cities in the world are founded with the premise to give its citizens access to most things for free. Museums, parks, zoos, festivals, and much more. DC is a compact city that is easily accessible, but offers plenty to do and see each season, so plan your visit accordingly. I'd recommend a minimum of 3 nights to get a taste, but if you can, spend more time.

Where to Stay:

  • There are plenty of great neighborhoods to stay at in DC. There are our favorites:

  • Dupont Circle is a historic neighborhood that is central to all the attractions and includes numerous choices for dining, bars, cafes.

  • Georgetown, the oldest neighborhood in DC, offers a great option for those who want to do shopping, enjoy restaurants on the water, and admire the historic houses.

  • U St/14th St Corridors are ideal for those who want to party, eat, and stay close to the downtown area.

Where/What to Eat:

  • Eat your way through Union Market. There are plenty of restaurants and bars in and outside of the market.

  • Try a half smoked chili dog at Ben's Chili (U st). Might be overhyped, but its a DC institution.

  • Eat fresh seafood at the Wharf seafood market, then grab a drink or eat some more while admiring the water front at the Wharf promenade.

  • Eat at Old Ebbit Grill, the oldest restaurant in DC

  • Have lunch/Dinner at Martin's Tavern.

  • Eat at one of Jose Andreas restaurants (Oyamel, Jaleo, Zayteniya)

  • Try at a Micheline star meal at Bresca.

  • Have a shawarma special at King George's in Georgetown.

  • Try a a Georgetown cupcake.

  • Eat an authentic Austrian/German food in the back of a deli at cafe Mozart.

  • Have an ice cream at Thomas Sweets.

  • Checkout Call Your Mother Deli.
